Hedgehog SOS!
If you need some advice about hedgehogs, please email me and I'll reply as quickly as I can.
Any hedgehog seen out during the day has a problem - please don't ignore it! If you find a sick or injured hog, use some garden gloves to pop them into an escape-proof box, wrap them in old towels or a fleece and put them somewhere dark, warm and quiet. Protect them from flies and ring for help as soon as possible. If you do have a covered hot water bottle, they will definitely appreciate it if you fill it with warm (not hot) water and place it nearby.
If you disturb a nest, please don't touch the babies. If their mother smells anything unfamiliar, she may either abandon the nest or eat the hoglets. Instead, try to replace all the bedding and protect the nest from weather and further disturbance. Seek help as soon as possible.
Your local vet may also be able to help you.
